Vibrations and error in interferometer averaging with application to testbeds (such as MAM and Kite) and SIM

چکیده

Background vibrations can introduce error in interferometer measurements needed for SIM and its testbeds. Vibrational noise usually has an rms amplitude that is larger than the required measurement precision—for example, experiments in the MAM chamber require a precision on the order of 10 pm in the presence of floor motions on the order of 1 micron. This memo analyzes how such noise sources feed into measurement error. Vibration-related requirements are derived by consideration of typical input spectra, effectiveness of attenuation, common-mode suppression, and computation of errors in time-domain averaging.
